If a person can clearly see nearby objects but has difficulty in vision while focusing on distant objects, then he is said to be suffering from Nearsightedness or myopia. Most of the distant objects viewed by this person will be blurred. This type of vision problem will result in a person straining his eyes to see far objects. Myopia or shortsightedness is caused due to the visual image getting focused in front of the retina, rather than directly on the retina. Nearsightedness situation is most commonly seen in school going children and progress as a person is growing and hence requires frequent changes in the glasses or contact lens.
a person can correct his nearsightedness by wearing glasses with proper lenses that will provide him perfect vision of far distanced objects. Another option is to use contact lenses with correct lens power that will aid in proper vision. If a person feels that his image will be spoiled by wearing contact lenses or spectacles, then going for corrective vision surgeries using LASER method will be the best suitable option. These eye procedures will help in reshaping the cornea and will help in shifting the focus point on the retina rather than in front of the retina. It is most important to early diagnose the problems caused by myopia or short sight. Only in rare cases do people suffer from retinal degeneration when affected by myopia. There is no way in which one can prevent nearsightedness and the progression of myopia cannot be arrested despite using glasses or contact lenses.
