There are two main types of Incontinence, or urine leakage. Stress incontinence and Urge incontinence. This medical condition can be present in all age groups ranging from the toddlers to the elderly. It is mainly caused by the weakening of the pelvic floor muscle. And though when the condition is present it is uncontrollable, yet it can be treated both my medication and exercise.

Stress incontinence, is related to pregnancy, childbirth and menopause in women. And whenever their is stress on the urethra it occurs. The stress incontinence occurs while laughing, sneezing,coughing and during any other strenuous activity.

Urge incontinence happens without any apparent reason or while doing any particular activity. The most common cause of this condition is the contraction of detrusor muscle involuntarily and at an inappropriate time. Some of the causes of this type of incontinence are infection, inflammation or irritation of the bladder.. It is also referred to as reflex incontinence. It is more common during sleep than during stress. And is the result of nerve damage, or damage to the spinal cord or the brain. Other reasons are Parkinson’s Disease, multiple sclerosis or an injury sustained during surgery.



Contrary to common belief, incontinence is more prevalent in men than in women, and the causes can be many ranging from prostrate surgery, constipation and diabetes etc..

This condition can also be present in teens. And an example of urge incontinence in children and teens is diurnal ( night time ) bed wetting. It is more common in boys than in girls.

Incontinence can be can be checked by wearing disposable pads, which you may say are equivalent of children diapers and more bulky pads can be used during the night. In addition, disposable sheets, or washable one must be used in case of people with excessive incontinence. So is the use of scented products necessary. Some people even go to the extent of installing catheters, in order to avoid this problem.

Some of the cures for incontinence are diet modification, moisture alarms, bladder training and muscle exercises to increase the strength of the abdominal activity. Yoga and meditation is also helpful. Natural remedies, like Cypress essential oil and Horsetail are also great to cure this condition. And homeopathic medicines like Argen Nit and Belladonna is also a good alternatives.
